Root Canal Treatment (Endodontics) – Ultradent

Root canal treatment (endodontic treatment) is used to save a tooth when the nerve and pulp inside the root have become infected or inflamed — typically due to deep decay, a crack, or trauma. Instead of extracting the tooth, we remove the infected tissue, clean and seal the root canals, and restore the tooth with a crown. The result is a tooth that looks and functions normally.

Root canal treatment performed under modern local anesthesia is no more uncomfortable than having a routine filling placed. The procedure relieves the pain caused by the infection — not causes it. Sedation is available for anxious patients.

Most root canals are completed in 1–2 appointments depending on the complexity of the case and the number of canals. We will give you a clear timeline at your consultation.

Keeping your natural tooth is almost always the better long-term option. Extraction leads to bone loss at the site, shifting of adjacent teeth, and the need for an implant or bridge — all of which cost more than a root canal. A well-treated tooth can last a lifetime.

Sometimes a previously treated root canal becomes re-infected years later. Retreatment involves reopening the tooth, removing the old filling material, re-cleaning the canals, and resealing them. Success rates for retreatment are high when performed by an experienced endodontist.

After the root canal is completed, the tooth needs to be restored — typically with a crown — to protect it from fracture. We can coordinate the crown as part of the same treatment plan. Some mild soreness for 2–3 days after the procedure is normal and manageable with standard pain relief.
