Professional Teeth Cleaning & Gum Treatment – Ultradent
Healthy gums are the foundation of every smile. Our hygienists and periodontists focus on gentle but thorough cleaning, eliminating inflammation and teaching you how to maintain results at home.
A full hygiene appointment includes professional scaling and polishing to remove tartar and staining, Air-Flow cleaning for stubborn surface stains, and a review of your gum health. We will also advise on your home care routine to prevent future buildup.
Bleeding gums are one of the earliest signs of gingivitis — inflammation of the gums caused by plaque buildup. It is very common and, at this stage, fully reversible with professional cleaning and improved home care. Left untreated, it can progress to periodontitis (gum disease), which is harder to treat and can lead to tooth loss.
A regular cleaning (scaling and polishing) removes tartar from the visible surfaces of teeth. Deep cleaning (root planning / curettage) goes below the gumline to remove bacteria and deposits from the root surfaces. It is used to treat periodontitis and typically requires local anaesthesia.
A routine cleaning is generally comfortable. Patients with sensitive teeth or inflamed gums may feel some tenderness, which passes quickly. Deep cleaning is performed under local anaesthesia so you will not feel discomfort during the procedure.
Most patients benefit from a professional cleaning every 6 months. Patients with gum disease or a high rate of tartar buildup may need more frequent visits — every 3–4 months — to maintain their results.
Gingivitis (early gum disease) is fully reversible with professional treatment and proper home care. Advanced periodontitis can be controlled and stabilized but requires ongoing maintenance. Early treatment is always more effective and less costly than treating advanced disease.
